Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the South East Youths for Progressives (SEY4P) has urged the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, to contest the Abia State governorship election, assuring him of widespread support from youths across Abia State.

In a statement issued on Monday, the group’s Publicity Secretary, Mercy Nwaogu, said the call was driven by growing interest and agitation among young people who have expressed confidence in Kalu’s leadership capacity.

The group commended Kalu’s role in restoring the confidence of youths in the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as a unifying figure whose leadership has inspired increased political participation among young people in the South-East. 

“We have received numerous enquiries from members and youths across the state seeking to know whether Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu will be on the ballot in 2027,” the statement said.

“There is a clear and consistent assurance from these groups that they are ready to mobilise, support, and work tirelessly to ensure his emergence.”

SEY4P noted that its endorsement was motivated by the need to promote credible and youth-friendly leadership capable of driving development and inclusive governance in the state.

The group, therefore, called on Kalu to heed the growing appeal and present himself for service, assuring that youths across Abia State stand firmly behind him.
