Ogah Defends Support for Otti, Rejects Claims of Political “Desperation”

Former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development and former APC governorship candidate in Abia State, Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, has dismissed suggestions that his recent political alignment is driven by a desire for power.

In a statement addressed to the people of Abia State, Ogah said his support for Governor Alex Otti is anchored on principle, personal conviction, and what he described as visible performance in governance, rather than political ambition.

He argued that supporting effective leadership across party lines should not be interpreted as political opportunism, stressing that competence should take precedence over partisan considerations.

“It is neither improper nor unusual to support competence and effective leadership, even across political divides,” he said, adding that loyalty to values and relationships should not be sacrificed on the altar of political rigidity.

Ogah maintained that his position stems from a longstanding relationship with Governor Otti, built on mutual respect and shared ideals, insisting that acknowledging progress in governance reflects integrity, not desperation.

He further cited what he described as notable improvements in Abia State under the current administration, including infrastructure development, youth empowerment initiatives, and reforms in the civil service, particularly in salary payments and staff welfare.

According to him, governance should be assessed based on tangible results rather than political rhetoric, noting that residents across the state can already observe ongoing changes.

Clarifying his political status, Ogah stated that his support for the governor does not amount to a defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming his continued loyalty to the party.

“Governance must transcend partisan boundaries. Leadership should be evaluated by its capacity to deliver security, economic advancement, and improved quality of life,” he said.

He cautioned against attempts to mischaracterise his position, warning that such narratives could undermine constructive political engagement and distract from development efforts in the state.

Ogah urged political stakeholders to prioritise policy-based discourse over personal attacks, calling for collaboration in the interest of citizens.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Abia State and Nigeria at large, insisting that his support for good governance remains unwavering.
